Why Visit Milan?

Milan is Italy's city of the future — the country's financial capital, fashion capital, and design capital simultaneously. While Rome has the Colosseum and Venice has canals, Milan has the Duomo, Leonardo's Last Supper, and an energy that feels more like New York than Naples. This is a city of serious aperitivo culture, extraordinary architecture, and the world's greatest concentration of fashion houses.

Navigli — Milan's canal district — becomes the city's living room at aperitivo hour, 6–9pm, when bars serve free or low-cost snacks with drinks and half of Milan is standing in the street. Brera's cobblestone gallery district is the most Parisian corner of Italy.

💡 Best time: April–June is perfect — warm, stylish events and the countryside at its best. September is excellent for fashion week. July–August is hot and quiet (Milanese leave the city). December for Christmas markets.

Safety in Milan

Very safe: Milan is one of Italy's safest cities. Central Milan has very low crime. Watch bags around the Duomo and on the Metro — pickpocketing does occur.

Safest areas for visitors

  • Brera, Porta Nuova, Duomo area — All extremely safe — some of Italy's best-maintained areas
  • Metro (especially M1 and M3) — Watch bags in peak hour — pickpocketing reported on M3 (yellow line)
  • Navigli area at night — Generally safe but busier — keep bags closed in the crowds
  • Night transport — Metro runs until ~12:30am. After that — Uber or licensed taxi.
📱 Milan tips: Buy a 48h or 72h transit pass (€7/€12) for unlimited metro and trams. Download Moovit for real-time transport. Aperitivo buffets are the smartest way to eat affordably.
